UN General Assembly condemns Israel for ‘excessive’ force at Gaza border

By Raphael Ahren.. After US amendment censuring Hamas is rejected on procedural grounds, 120 countries vote in favor of resolution calling for ‘protection’ for Palestinian civilians. With a huge majority, the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday (June 13, 2018) passed a resolution condemning Israel for using “excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate” force during the recent clashes at the Gaza border and calling for an “international protection mechanism” for Palestinian civilians. Nikki Haley Hosts Reception for “Friends of the US” in the UN

On January 3rd, 2018 at the US mission to the UN in New York, Nikki Haley hosted a “Friends of the US” reception for the 64 countries that did not support the United Nations Jerusalem resolution. The non-legally binding UN resolution, passed 128-9 on December 21st in an emergency General Assembly session, condemned US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and beginning the process of moving its embassy there two weeks earlier. After US veto, UN General Assembly to meet on Jerusalem status

UNITED NATIONS (REUTERS) – The 193-member United Nations General Assembly will hold a rare emergency special session on Thursday (Dec 21, 2017) at the request of Arab and Muslim states on US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour said the General Assembly would vote on a draft resolution calling for Trump’s declaration to be withdrawn, which was vetoed by the United States in the 15-member UN Security Council on Monday (Dec 18, 2017). Ninety-nine years ago, on 2nd November 1917, the British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour wrote a letter to Baron Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, conveying the content of the decision of the British War Cabinet three days earlier. The decision was as follows:

“His Majesty’s Government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.” (more…)

We all know about the ludicrous and insulting parallel drawn between Israel and the former apartheid regime in South Africa. It was precisely that parallel that underpinned the notorious U.N. General Assembly resolution of 1975, which has since been rescinded, equating Zionism with racism.
