Israel’s First Female Sharia Judge Sworn In

By BICOM.. Israel has appointed the ever first female judge (Qadi) to the Muslim Sharia Courts. Hana Khatib, an expert in Sharia law from Tamra in the lower Galilee, was sworn in Monday (May 15, 2017) at the President’s residence with four other new judges. “This is a really big victory, and it really shows how the courts can support equality for women,” Khatib said. Will Rivlin meet Abbas in Belgium?

President Reuven Rivlin and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are both scheduled to address the European Parliament this week – Rivlin on Wednesday (June 22, 2016) , and Abbas on Thursday (June 23, 2016). Rivlin is expected to talk about the need for confidence-building measures between Israel and the Palestinians, one of his pet themes when hosting foreign visitors. Since the start of his presidency two years ago, Rivlin has steadfastly maintained that Israelis and Palestinians are not doomed to live together, but rather are destined to live together. On Sunday night (September 21, 2014), President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at the 10th-anniversary celebration marking the founding of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem. In his remarks, Rivlin described the impact of what he referred to as the “revolution” Menachem Begin led in Israeli society.
