Israel: Covenants & Kingdom (52) – Kingdom and Covenants

editor 12 September 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. From the book “Israel: Covenants & Kingdom”

Chapter 7 – Jerusalem
Introduction
“…But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and He will give you rest from all your enemies around you so that you live in safety. Then to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for His name – there you shall bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and the special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the LORD. And there rejoice before the LORD your God, you, your sons and daughters, your men- servants and maidservants…” (Deuteronomy 12:10-12). Israel: Covenants & Kingdom (51) – Chapter 6 – Kingdom and Covenants

editor 5 September 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. From the book “Israel: Covenants & Kingdom”

The Gospel of the Kingdom (Cont’d)
Still others have understood the Kingdom of God to be essentially an ideal pattern for human society. The Kingdom is not primarily concerned with individual salvation or with the future but with the social problems of the present. Men build the Kingdom of God as they work for the ideal social order and endeavour to solve the problems of poverty, sickness, labour relations, social inequalities and race relationships. The primary task of the Church is to build the Kingdom of God. Israel: Covenants & Kingdom (50) – Chapter 6 – Kingdom and Covenants

editor 28 August 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. From the book “Israel: Covenants & Kingdom”

The Gospel of the Kingdom
The following quotation is taken from what is, in my opinion, a great article by George Eldon Ladd. The writer was a Baptist minister and professor of Biblical Theology and New Testament exegesis at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. Ordained in 1933, he pastored in New England from 1936 to 1945, and then served as an instructor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary from 1942 to 1945. Israel: Covenants & Kingdom (49) – Chapter 6 – Kingdom and Covenants

editor 22 August 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. From the book “Israel: Covenants & Kingdom”

What should the Church do?

  1. Repent for her sins of the past

We should be like Daniel. Personally he had done nothing wrong, and probably was the most pious man on earth during his days. He refused food that a Jew was not supposed to eat, and it could have cost him his life. But he would rather have died than deny the God of Israel and His commandments. He understood on the basis of the prophecies of Jeremiah that the seventy years of the Babylonian Captivity, 600 – 530 BC, were almost over, and that the people of Israel were about to return home to the Promised Land. Israel: Covenants & Kingdom (26) – Chapter 4 – God’s Love and Covenants with Israel

editor 17 May 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. From the book “Israel: Covenants & Kingdom”

Everlasting Covenants
The Covenants are to be taken literally as contracts between two parties. These Covenants are eternal, everlasting agreements with Israel that will therefore exist ‘forever’. God cannot change His mind halfway about them. All these Covenants are covered by a solemn oath, which the Lord Almighty swore by His own Name at the making of these Covenants with Israel. Biblical Reflections – Lake of Fire

editor 11 January 2018

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (Matthew 8:28-32) “Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41) “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10) “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12). ISRAEL – SUNDAY 2017 (Dutch: ISRAËL ZONDAG 2017)

editor 27 September 2017

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer.. A form of Christian theology, or perhaps one should rather say anti-Christian theology, has for centuries held the Jewish people collectively responsible for the death of Jesus. The Church has been less merciful than God. It cannot be repeated often enough that the Crusades, Inquisition, Pogroms, and Holocaust took place in the Christian world, and represent Christian anti-Semitism. Even today, the World Council of Churches issues one pro-Palestinian pronouncement after another. (more…)

City of the Great King

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer..
Part I: Jerusalem, the Eternal Dwelling Place

When Israel reclaimed Jerusalem in 1967, it made the hearts of devout Jews skip a beat. Would this be the moment the Temple would be rebuilt? And if so, where would that be? Of course, many Jews said that Jerusalem should be the place, on top of Mount Zion, where the temples of Solomon and Zerubbabel had been. It would be built in the same location that the Temple was destroyed by the heathen nations, Babel and Rome. But why build it in Jerusalem? (more…)

A Word to Consider

editor 22 April 2017

By Rev Willem J.J. Glashouwer..

ASSYRIA
“…The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand [two hundred million]. I heard their number…” (Revelation 9:13-16). (more…)

SEVENTY NATIONS

editor 16 January 2017

By Rev Willem J.J.  Glashouwer.. Those who have followed the developments in the Middle East year after year will not have missed that in November 2012, the General Assembly – voting by a large majority (139 in favour to 9 against with 41 abstentions) – accorded Palestine ‘non-Member Observer State status’ in the United Nations. Since then, pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel resolutions follow each other in quick succession. (more…)
