Erdoğan’s Turkey: A caliphate in the making?

editor 5 June 2018

By Zvi Mazel.. Under Erdoğan’s leadership, Turkey has become a major player in the Middle East. In order to further his vision, he is active virtually everywhere.  The new crisis with Israel initiated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the Gaza so called “March of Return” demonstrations, taken together with his decision to advance the presidential election, should be regarded as an integral part of his bid for regional hegemony. Is Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood Still the Loyal Opposition?

editor 8 May 2017

By Nur Köprülü.. The Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, the key Islamist movement in the country, has had a long-standing symbiotic relationship with the monarchy and, until recently, was not considered a threat to the survival of the Hashemite Kingdom. But the rise and fall of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the growth of militant Islamist groups such as the Islamic State (ISIS) have alarmed the monarchy and led to a drastic shift in the nature of its relations with the Brotherhood from coexistence to persecution. Will the Jordanian regime be able to contain the Islamists and, in turn, will the Brotherhood choose to challenge the throne rather than to acquiesce in its continued suppression? [Photo top right:Until the 1990s, the Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood had been a tacit ally of the Hashemite monarchy. That close relationship has deteriorated, triggered in large degree by King Hussein’s (R) decision to recognize and make peace with Israel in 1994. He is seen here with Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.]. (more…)

Erdogan Grooms a New Jihad Generation

editor 10 January 2015

By Abigail R. Esman.. First, he promised to build a new, “religious generation.” Now, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to be going one step further: creating, too, a new generation for jihad. If that sounds a bit like the Islamic State, there is one significant distinction: IS leaders shape their youth by teaching them to use Kalashnikovs and knives. Erdogan is shaping children’s minds. And that can be far more dangerous. (more…)

Muslim Brotherhood Launches its Own U.S. Political Party

editor 8 April 2014

By Robert Spencer.. CAIRMAS and their allied groups are so practiced in deception, and so many American voters are so ignorant and indifferent, that this group could gain real traction. Meanwhile, given that Muslims of various sects vote as blocs in Iraq and elsewhere, it is not hard to envision such a bloc emerging in the U.S., and ultimately transforming American politics. Mideast Christians: an Endangered Species in their Ancestral Land

editor 23 August 2013

By Noah beck.. Egypt’s Christians are being targeted and scapegoated for the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood. An Egyptian human rights activist tweeted that the Virgin Mary in Minya, one of the oldest churches in Egypt, built in the 4th century, was destroyed by fire yesterday (August 14, 2013). There have also been media reports about attacks on churches in the city of Suez and other villages. Jason Isaacson, Director of Government and International Affairs for the American Jewish Committee condemned these acts: “Organized violence against Egypt’s Copts, the murder of innocents and destruction of churches, is outrageous and unforgivable.” (more…)

Israel to Obama: Stop being so naive on Egypt

editor 14 July 2013

By Israel Today Staff.. A senior Israeli government official on Tuesday said US President Barack Obama must stop being so naive on Egypt, and should avoid the same kind of failed policies Washington implemented during the last Egyptian revolution.
