Palestinians: Americans Now Legitimate Targets

editor 2 June 2018

By Bassam Tawil.. Ultimately, it is all about money. The Palestinian Authority is desperate for US financial aid; without it the Palestinian leadership would not be able to survive. So the Palestinians are hoping to extort protection money from the Americans. It is like saying, “You see what will happen to you if you stop funding me? It could always get worse for you. I suggest that you restore my accountability-free funding, and perhaps I will see to it that you do not get hurt.” [Photo top right: NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 20, 2017: The State of Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas speaks during the U.N. Scholar: Abbas Deliberately Chose to Be Photographed With Antisemitic Cartoon

editor 28 May 2018

By Benjamin Kerstein.. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas deliberately chose to be photographed reading a newspaper with an antisemitic cartoon facing the camera, a Middle East scholar has revealed. The photograph, taken in Abbas’ hospital room, where he was being treated for an ear infection and pneumonia, shows him reading a PA newspaper. Clearly visible is a cartoon showing an Israeli soldier poisoning a Palestinian baby. editor 8 May 2018

By Dr. George N. Tzogopoulos.. BESA Center Online Debate No. 10, May 6, 2018

Q:   In 2005, Mahmoud Abbas was elected to a four-year term as president of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Thirteen years later he remains in the position without having held any further elections. While the date of his departure cannot be predicted, scenarios for the new leadership of the PA are already being examined. BESA joins the debate by posing the question: Would a change in the PA’s leadership affect the peace process?

Respondents: Ido Zelkovitz, Hillel Frisch, Amir Tibon, Asaf Romirowsky, Gregg Roman, Jonathan Rynhold [Photo top right: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gestures as he delivers a speech in the West Bank city of Bethlehem January 6, 2016. REUTERS/Ammar Awad]. (more…)

220 Airstrikes on Palestinians; World Yawns

editor 2 May 2018

By Khaled Abu Toameh.. Dropping barrels of dynamite on houses and hospitals in a Palestinian refugee camp is apparently of no interest to those who pretend to champion Palestinians around the world. Nor does the issue seem to move the UN Security Council. UNRWA said that of the estimated 438,000 Palestine refugees remaining inside Syria, more than 95% (418,000) are in critical need of sustained humanitarian assistance. Analysis: In Private, Palestinian Leadership Opposes Gaza Protests

editor 14 April 2018

By Adam Rasgon.. Despite the Palestinian leadership’s public expressions of solidarity with thousands of Gazan protesters, it privately stands in opposition to the ongoing demonstrations. The Ramallah-based Palestinian leadership has taken a public stance in support of Palestinians who have been protesting for more than two weeks on the Gazan side of the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Checkmating the smart Abbas

editor 31 March 2018

By Caroline Glick.. PLO chief and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is no idiot. He didn’t survive as Yasser Arafat’s deputy for 40 years and as his successor for 14 by being stupid. So if he isn’t stupid, why is he attacking the United States? Why did he deliver an anti-American diatribe Monday night (March 19, 2018) that would have made Ho Chi Minh proud? Not only did Abbas call US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman a “son of a dog.” He blamed the US for all the woes of the Arab world. (more…)

Arab Leaders Pressure Mahmoud Abbas

editor 22 March 2018

By Yoni Ben Menachem.. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are putting mounting pressure on the chairman of the Palestinian Authority to accept President Donald Trump’s “deal of the century.” Senior Fatah sources reckon that Mahmoud Abbas will not compromise on Palestinian “red lines,” and when he retires from political life he will be known as the leader who did not succumb to pressure to accept the American offer.
