Israel: UNESCO Is the “Titanic of International Organizations”

By Amb. Carmel Shama Hacohen (UNESCO).. Israel’s ambassador to UNESCO Carmel Shama-Hacohen told the agency’s 39th General Conference in Paris on Friday (November 3, 2017):
I would like to thank U.S. President Trump and our American allies for their courageous and just decision to leave UNESCO and for their continuous support of Israel. This new and shiny hall is highly deceptive in leading one to think that something good transpires between the walls of UNESCO, while this organization reaches a new low on every session in every respect. One – giving a bad reputation to international organizations, and two – wasting a lot of money and precious time, like today and yesterday in the education committee, which could – and should – have been used to promote education and culture, rather than to obsessive politicization against Israel and the Jewish people. The sorry state of affairs is that on the other side of town, countries stand in line and struggle which one will be lucky enough to join the OECD first, while we, in here, are mired in fruitless struggles which contradict our very mission, mandate and vocation. All this is happening before our very eyes, while the world’s leading super-power, the United States of America, chooses to leave UNESCO, and by no means is it the last country planning to do so.
