Laughing at UNESCO

editor 17 July 2017

By Paula R. Stern.. UNESCO is fast becoming the cheapest and most readily available subject for jokes. Anger fast becomes hysterics as you realize the absurdity of their latest claims. Bibi Netanyahu calls them “delusional.” That’s pretty much a compliment. One thing I love about the Jewish people is that when the going gets tough, rather than break, we either are driven to tears or to laughter. Happily, this time, we choose laughter. Trump said bidding to defeat new anti-Israel UNESCO resolution

editor 27 April 2017

By Times of Israel Staff..The Trump administration has reportedly ordered US ambassadors in UNESCO member states to initiate meetings with their host countries’ foreign ministries in a bid to defeat an anti-Israel resolution that is to be debated at the UN cultural organization next week. The passage last October by 23 votes to 6 of a UNESCO resolution sponsored by Arab states that ignored Jewish and Christian historical ties to Jerusalem holy sites sparked an outcry in Israel, and was castigated by then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. Europe’s Compassionate Hatred of Israel

editor 15 February 2017

By Bat Ye’or.. The Jerusalem Declaration of UNESCO seeks to Islamize, with the help of many governments in Europe and other Christian countries, the ancient history of the people of Israel. But what does this declaration mean for Europe and Christianity? Wasn’t Christianity born out of Israel? Wasn’t Jesus a Judean Jew, as were the apostles and evangelists? Or was it Islam that Jesus was preaching, in Arabic and in the mosques? (more…)

As Syria burns, the United Nations again bashes … Israel

editor 8 December 2016

By Post Editorial Board.. French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault this week called the bloodshed in Syria, where Bashar al-Assad is butchering civilians, “a descent into Hell” and demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. British Prime Minister Theresa May called the situation “horrific.” The Security Council didn’t act — but the UN General Assembly managed to pass six resolutions targeting Israel. The UN’s Palestine Language

editor 3 December 2016

By A.J. Caschetta.. For decades, UN agencies have slandered the Jewish state, most recently with the April 2016 accusation that it has been “planting Jewish fake graves” in Palestinian territory, and with UNESCO declaring last year (2015) that the ancient Jewish Biblical sites Rachel’s Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs are actually Muslim holy sites, and last month (October 2016) that the Temple Mount, where the Jewish Temples were destroyed in 587 BCE and 70 CE, is an Islamic site with no connection to Judaism. For Israel, the Task is to Work Even Harder to Keep Old Friends and Reach Out to New Ones

editor 23 November 2016

By Eran Lerman.. Israel’s continued success in global affairs will disprove the deluded claim that the Jewish state is isolated in the world. It’s also the right strategy. Arthur Herman’s essay, “Everybody Loves Israel,” comes as a breath of fresh air amid the pummelings being administered by the United Nations and the BDS movement and the dirge-like laments of friends about the Jewish state’s growing isolation as it courts a fate worse even than South Africa’s apartheid. In UNESCO, Palestinians claim ownership of Dead Sea Scrolls

editor 9 November 2016

By Shlomo Cesana.. Palestinians say that as the Qumran Caves, in the Judean Desert, are beyond the Green Line, Israel has taken possession of the ancient texts illegally. Israeli envoy to UNESCO: “This is another provocative attempt by the Palestinians to rewrite history.” The Palestinian Authority is planning to claim ownership of the Dead Sea Scrolls and demand that UNESCO order Israel to surrender the artifacts, Israel Hayom learned over the weekend. Italy’s Prime Minister: UNESCO’s Jerusalem Resolution ‘Shocking,’ Next Time We’ll Vote Against It
