Mahmoud Abbas’s Guardian op-ed illustrates the dishonesty of the ‘Palestinian narrative’

editor 20 November 2017

By Adam Levick.. The Guardian’s efforts to amplify the ‘injustice’ of Israel’s continued existence in the context of the Balfour Centennial went into high gear yesterday (November 1, 2017), as they published an op-ed  by PA President Mahmoud Abbas that included nearly every distortion and lie within what’s known as the ‘Palestinian narrative’.

Here are some of Abbas’s claims in his op-ed (Britain must atone for the Balfour declaration – and 100 years of suffering, November 1, 2017). (more…)

editor 7 November 2017

By Melanie Phillips.. When Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn refused to attend this week’s dinner in London to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, a dinner to which Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been invited as the guest of Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May, Corbyn said Labour’s shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry would attend in his place. The Historical Significance of the Balfour Declaration

editor 6 November 2017

By Ambassador Dore Gold.. * Ambassador Dore Gold is the Guest Editor of this special issue of the Jewish Political Studies Review. The stated purpose of the Balfour Declaration from November 2, 1917 and the circumstances under which it was published are generally known. The most common explanation was that Britain and the Allied Powers were moved by idealism and their interests. At a critical point in the First World War, the British cabinet needed to secure world Jewish support for the Allied cause and hoped at the same time to keep both the United States and Russia on their side. Brits Still Two-Faced Over Balfour

editor 31 October 2017

By Melanie Phillips.. Astonishingly, the British Foreign Office is still continuing to undermine the Balfour Declaration, the centenary of which falls in a couple of weeks’ time. In a speech at the UN Security Council a few days ago Jonathan Allen, the UK’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said the following: “From the outset, I would like to make clear, as we approach the centenary of the Balfour Declaration next month, that the UK understands and respects the sensitivities many have about the Declaration and the events that have taken place in the region since 1917. “Has Truth Lost All Meaning”? For Israel-Haters, Yes

editor 13 October 2017

By Melanie Phillips.. Thomas Suarez is an Israel-hater. He is about to embark on a tour of America. He recently concluded a tour of Scotland. He has spoken at universities in the United Kingdom. A book he wrote, published last year, which vilifies and defames the state of Israel and which references and has been endorsed by other Israel-haters, was honoured with a launch inside a meeting room in the House of Lords. [Photo top right: Thomas Suarez described the creation of Israel as a ‘racist’, ‘fascist’ endeavour, and linked the ‘cult’ of Zionism to the Nazis, while speaking at an event organised by SOAS Palestine Society]. The new Democratic Party

editor 11 October 2017

By Caroline Glick.. Since 2015, Britain has been one election away from having an antisemitic prime minister backed by antisemitic voters. If current trends in the Democratic Party continue, in the not-so-distant future, the United States might be in the same position. Two years ago, Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of Britain’s main opposition Labor Party. That officially put an end to Tony Blair’s alignment of the Labor Party with the political center in Britain, both in economic and in foreign affairs. (more…)

The 80th Anniversary of the Two-State Solution

editor 7 October 2017

By Rick Richman.. In 1937, an official British report first proposed the partition of Mandate Palestine. The story behind it helps to explain why the Arab-Jewish conflict remains unresolved. In this epochal year of Zionist anniversaries—the 120th of the First Zionist Conference in Basle, the 100th of the Balfour Declaration, the 70th of the 1947 UN Partition Resolution, the 50th of the Six-Day War—there is yet another to be marked: the 80th anniversary of the 1937 British Peel Commission Report, which first proposed a “two-state solution” for Palestine. Britain’s Alarming Antisemitism Problem

editor 26 September 2017

By Melanie Phillips.. In 2002, on the BBC TV show Question Time, I was accused of dual loyalty in front of a jeering studio audience. My crime had been to defend Israel against demonization and double standards by both the audience and other members of the panel. At that time I had visited Israel only twice in my life, two years previously. No matter. [Photo top right: Massacre of Jews; woodcut, 1493](more…)
