Egypt discovers iron tunnel network under Gaza border

By Roi Kais.. Massive network of ‘extremely expensive’ tunnels with 40cm-thick iron walls discovered on Egyptian side of the border, which Cairo claims was built by Hamas and funded by Qatar. Egyptian border guards discovered a first of its kind underground tunnel network made of iron under the country’s border with Gaza on Friday (November 27, 2015), according to Egyptian security officials. The tunnel was discovered at a depth of 10 meters near the northern part of the Rafah crossing, which connects the Gaza Strip to the Sinai Peninsula. Israeli Army Revamps Training Regimen

By Barbara Opall-Rome.. TEL AVIV — From surging procurement of advanced simulators to a massive new urban training base with underground facilities for anti-tunnel warfare, the Israeli Army is changing the way it prepares for high-intensity, maneuvering battle. Managed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Ground Forces Command and funded in part from US military grant aid, training initiatives include development and construction of a sprawling new base in the Golan Heights where all echelons will hone combined arms urban and subterranean maneuvering skills. Egypt’s War on Terrorism Bears Fruit

By Khaled Abu Toameh.. Egyptian President Sisi’s war against the smuggling tunnels will undoubtedly weaken Hamas and other radical groups in the Gaza Strip. Sisi should be commended, rather than criticized, for his courageous actions against Islamist terrorists, both in the Gaza Strip and in Sinai. Sisi’s actions will benefit not only Egyptians, but also many Palestinians who are opposed to Hamas and radical Islamist groups. Israel says Islamic State’s Sinai assault aimed to help Hamas get arms

By Dan Williams.. Israel accused Hamas on Tuesday (July 7, 2015) of supporting last week’s assaults by Islamic State affiliates on Egyptian forces in the Sinai in hope of freeing up arms smuggling to the Gaza Strip. The remarks followed Israeli allegations that Hamas members provided training and medical treatment for the Sinai insurgents – charges dismissed by the Palestinian Islamist group as a bid to further fray its troubled ties with Cairo. Egyptian Army: 69 Tunnels on Gazan Border Destroyed Since March 2015

By MaanNews.com.. CAIRO (Ma’an) — The Egyptian army has destroyed 69 tunnels along the border with the Gaza Strip since March 28, 2015, an Egyptian army spokesman said Saturday (April 18,2015). Spokesman Muhammad Samir said that Egyptian border forces stationed in the Egyptian side of Rafah had discovered and destroyed the tunnels in coordination with army engineers. Hamas focuses on rebuilding tunnels as Gazans suffer

Hamas reconstructing damaged Gaza attack tunnel

Hamas’s armed wing is reconstructing an attack tunnel damaged by Israel during Operation Protective Edge, the movement’s newspaper reported on Sunday (October 19, 2014), admitting that renovation work was carried out on the tunnel under the protection of a humanitarian ceasefire during the operation.  (more…)

The IDF is Searching for Tunnels – Also in the Northern Border

By Ayelet Izraeli.. In light of the tunnel threat that was exposed during operation “Protective Edge”, the IDF recently began operations at the Lebanon border, intended to search and locate tunnels that may have been dug towards Israel. The army doesn’t elaborate on the specifications of the operations, but states that they are working with units and new methods that haven’t been tested in the area before. Thus, in the past few months, 30 million shekels were invested in new technological methods, to locate tunnels along the northern border. (more…)
