In the run-up to the September UN meetings in New York, in which the Palestinians are likely to launch their UN bid for recognition of a Palestinian State in the West Bank and Gaza, it is good to reflect on who actually owns the West Bank. The Palestinian bid is based on the idea that the West Bank is illegally occupied by Israel. That presupposes a particular understanding of the historical and legal background.
