The Promised Land and the Holy City

Rev. Jaap de Vreugd 10 November 2011

Discussion has flared up again recently concerning the validity of the Old Testament promise of land since the coming of Christ.  So-called Palestinian liberation theology, as expressed in particular by the Sabeel Institute, plays an important role in this respect.  To put it succinctly and clearly this says, in effect, that the Old Testament finds its complete fulfilment in Christ; there are no more exclusive promises for Israel; there is therefore no more ‘promised land’ for Israel; the New Testament broadening of the promise of land brings the whole earth into focus as the domain of God’s salvation, the promise of land being fulfilled in Christ as a result; and the election of Israel ends with the coming of Christ. Israel – aggressive oppressor, or modern miracle? Wake up and smell the coffee!

Andrew Tucker 10 November 2011

Are you as confused as I am? I just read the proceedings of the recent UNESCO meetings in which it was decided to recognize the Palestinan State, recognizing the independence of a people liberated from oppressive Israeli occupation. And then I watched this video, and saw how amazing the restoration of the Jewish people really is. Did I miss something? Are we talkin gabout the same thing? Is someone lying? Who should I believe? Only the Lord will save Israel

editor 14 June 2011

By Joel C. Rosenberg… Will Israel turn their hearts to the Lord? That’s the key question as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu finished his high-profile trip to Washington, meeting with President Obama, addressing 10,000-plus pro-Israel activists at the AIPAC Policy Conference, addressing a Joint Session of Congress, and doing a flurry of major media interviews. Where are the lost tribes of Israel?

editor 12 January 2010

by Barry Strong

No return of these tribes to their land has been recorded in the Bible or in secular histories. Nothing more has been heard of them. Apparently they vanished without trace. But the Bible says they have an important place in Israel’s future.

Suppose that I am wrong?

editor 22 October 2009

By David Pawson

This thought has haunted me as I have written pages, as it does every time I put pen to paper. Indeed, at one stage, when people began to call me ‘the Israel man’, I pulled away from speaking about Israel for quite some time, wanting to be known as a teacher of ‘the whole counsel of God’ (Acts 20:27).

Israel: a nation, a land or people?

editor 18 September 2009

By G. Douglas Young
This study is focussing on the Christian and Jewish understandings of the Word “Israel”. What does the Bible mean when it says ‘Israel’? Is it a nation, or a land, or is it the Church? Why not listen to the Jewish people themselves for an answer? (more…)

Israel and the kingdom of God

Rev. Jaap de Vreugd 1 August 2009

By Rev. Jaap de Vreugd
It is no exaggeration to say that all the preaching and teaching of the Bible is focused on the coming of the kingdom of God in relation with the coming of the Messiah, the King of the kingdom. The psalms and the prophets, Jesus and the apostles – they all dream of the coming kingdom of the God of Israel in his only begotten Son the Messiah, when the shalom and the justice of God will cover the earth and all mankind will serve and praise the living eternal God and his Son.
