Whatever this may have been, that speech produced one satisfactory result. The Israeli Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, for once started to tell the west a few home truths about what it was doing. The Secretary of Homeland security, Janet Napolitano, was proud to announce the intention of US  President Obama to nominate David Heyman as Assistant Secretary for Policy and Arif Alikhan as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development. Both individuals apparently bring a broad and impressive array of experience in national security, emergency preparedness and counterterrorism to the Department.

Obama meets Israel in Nairobi

“Hey, Obama!” called out the young black man from the other side of the street in Nairobi. I confess I was a bit surprised, because I really don’t look like Obama, with my pale Aussie face and skinny white legs sticking out from under my running shorts. But I guess Obama for him represents the Western world, of which I am, like it or not, a part. It was his way of communicating. So I gave him a big smile and kept on running.
