With Israeli-EU relations strained, Netanyahu looks toward India, China

By Ben Sales.. European-Israeli relations are at a low point now while Israeli relations with Asia, meanwhile, have been on the upswing. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, sat kiddy-corner in armchairs at this week’s international climate summit near Paris (November 30 – December 11, 2015), talking and laughing. “We have the best of relations, and they can be made even better,” Netanyahu told Modi at the meeting. To which Modi responded, “I am happy that often we can talk easily on telephone, we can discuss everything.” (more…)

How Isolated is Israel?

By Elliott Abrams.. It’s common to hear about Israel’s growing isolation in the world, and UN votes are sometimes held up as evidence of this. The Boycotts Divestment and Sanctions movement, especially in Europe, is also adduced to show Israel’s increasing isolation. In that context the following announcement is of interest: the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, will become the first prime minister of India to visit Israel. India’s foreign minister made the announcement today (June 2, 2015); the dates are not yet set. (more…)

Don’t Worry, Obama, India’s Got Your Back

By Vijeta Uniyal.. Under Prime Minister Modi’s [Photo top right] leadership, India has seen a rise in foreign investment; in 2014, the country’s economic growth was 7.5%, higher than that of China. In Yemen, the U.S. Administration watched as Iranian-backed militias disarmed U.S. Marines and seized embassy vehicles, before the diplomatic staff was let out of the country. However, the Indian government and defense forces deserve due credit for conducting a well-organized rescue operation. As President Obama refuses lead the Free World, other world leaders are rising up to speak for it — Canada’s Stephen Harper, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and now India’s Narendra Modi.
