150 German-Speaking Jewish Leaders Gather In Jerusalem

editor 16 December 2017

By Tamara Zieve.. Some 150 young Jewish leaders from German-speaking countries gathered in Jerusalem over the weekend for an annual event hosted by the Jewish Agency for Israel. According to JAFI, this is the largest annual gathering of its kind. It is usually held in Europe, but took place in Israel’s capital this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. The three-day event began on Friday (December 8, 2017) and ended Sunday (December 10, 2017), and sought to show participants different aspects of Jerusalem while providing a platform for the Jewish leaders to network and connect with one another. So Just Shut Up!

editor 16 December 2017

By Paula Stern.. Ever feel like going outside and screaming at the top of your lungs, “Just SHUT UP!” I can’t do that because, with several small grandchildren, I would have them repeating it to everyone they know and so, in silence I suffer as I read the words of others, as I hear them express one of several absurd and inaccurate comments. Most prevalent, and most annoying is the one where people suggest that the US should not move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem because of the threat of violence. Talk about giving in to terrorism! OMG. [Photo top right: Still from Danny Ayalon’s Youtube video “The Truth About Jerusalem”]. (more…)

Why the ‘Arab street’ didn’t just explode

editor 15 December 2017

By Ralph Peters.. In the wake of President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last week, the “experts” crowding the media predicted strategic calamity: Vast, violent protests and a wave of terror would sweep the Muslim world in the coming days. Instead, the largest demonstration anywhere this weekend was the funeral procession for Johnny Hallyday, the “French Elvis.” Nothing in the Middle East came close. Jerusalem in the ‘End Times’

editor 8 December 2017

By Andrew Tucker.. There is a lot of talk about the end times, or ‘last days’, that have been prophesied in the Bible. The term ‘end days’ in the Bible does not mean the end of the earth or the end of the world. It means the end of a phase of world history (the Greek word is ‘aeon’ meaning ‘vital force’, ‘generation’ or ‘period of time’). In Matthew 24, the disciples ask Jesus “what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?”. Jesus answers by telling them about all the things that will happen before ‘the end’. He talks about ‘birth pains’ (verse 8), wars, famines, earthquakes and other signs of the ‘end’. In all of this, He speaks in the context of the prophecies of the Old Testament which are full of God’s promises to send the Messiah to usher in the kingdom. (more…)

Hidden gems of Jerusalem

editor 29 November 2017

By Noam Chen.. A mission to reveal treasures that are inaccessible to the general public, and others that are just out of sight. We all know that each city we visit has its “must-see” sites and attractions. First-time visitors to Jerusalem usually go to the Western Wall, the Old City market and the Tower of David, to name a few of the city’s most famous landmarks. But a city that dates back thousands of years, with rich history unlike any other on earth, has much more than meets the eye.
