EU leader: Europe not ready yet to blacklist Hezbollah
By WJC.. The president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, has said that the EU would consider adding Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations but added that it did yet possess sufficient evidence of the Shiite militia’s activities in Europe to take such a decision now. Last month, Bulgaria – one of 27 member states – implicated Hezbollah in a bombing in the Black Sea resort of Burgas last year that killed five Israelis, putting pressure on the EU to take action against Hezbollah.
Palestinians mourn death of Hugo Chavez
By Israel Today Staff.. Tuesday’s (March 5, 2013) announcement that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had lost his battle with cancer was met with much sadness in the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories. ”Palestine [sic] says goodbye to a loyal friend,” wrote senior Palestinian official Nabil Shaath, who hailed Chavez’s long antagonism of Israel in service to Palestinian nationalistic ambitions.
Trial Offers Rare Look at Work of Hezbollah in Europe
By Nicholas Kulish.. LIMASSOL, Cyprus — In a little-noticed trial in a small courtroom here on Wednesday (February 20, 2013), a 24-year-old man provided a rare look inside a covert global war between Israel and Iran, admitting that he is an operative of the militant group Hezbollah, for which he acted as a courier in Europe and staked out locations in this port city that Israelis were known to frequent. Bulgaria urges EU to take harder stance on Hezbollah
By WJC.. Bulgaria urged European governments on Monday (18 February) to take a harder stance toward Hezbollah after blaming the Lebanese Islamist movement for a bus bombing that killed five Israelis at a Bulgarian Black Sea resort last year. Iran gets blustery after Israeli strike; regional armies on high alert
By Ryan Jones.. Iranian officials at the weekend very publicly and very loudly vowed to smash Israel days after the Jewish state purportedly launched an air strike against a weapons convoy that was transferring advanced Syrian anti-aircraft missiles to Lebanon’s Hezbollah terrorist militia.
Israel on Friday February 4, 2013, indirectly admitted to carrying out the air strike, which targeted a shipment of SA-17 missiles. Hezbollah is working hard to get its hands on Syrian military hardware, and possibly chemical weapons, as the regime of dictator Bashar Assad totters. (more…)
“Fifty thousand missiles – that’s more than most countries have!”
By David Pileggi.. This is how the former Israeli intelligence officer, Miri Eisin, commented on the size of Hezbollah’s massive (Iranian supplied) arsenal. Eisin was giving us (a group of tour guides) an intensive study day of the political and military realities of Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. (more…)
Peace-Traumatic Stress Disorder
By Michael Freund.. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has consistently refused to return to talks with Israel and has repeatedly rejected the Jewish state’s pleas in this regard. Israel’s leaders appear to have developed a previously unheard-of malady, one so acute it threatens to overwhelm both their mental faculties and common sense. It is what I refer to as “Peace-Traumatic Stress Disorder” (PETS), and its symptoms are fairly easy to discern. (more…)
Beyond the Gaza headlines: Numbers, context and the choice now facing Hamas
By David Horovitz.. It’s a sequence that has played out, with minor variations, several times before. Israel targets a Palestinian terror kingpin, acting on information that he is planning to orchestrate a major attack, but knowing that the act of thwarting him will likely prompt barrages of rockets aimed at towns and villages all over the south. The rockets indeed start flying, the air force is dispatched again and again to stop the terror cells that are poised to fire still more salvos, and the Gaza death toll mounts.
