UNRWA cancels Gaza marathon after Hamas bans women from taking part

The UN aid agency UNRWA has canceled a planned marathon in the Gaza strip following a ban on women runners imposed by the territory’s Hamas rulers. UNRWA, which assists Palestinian refugees and also sponsors and organizes the event, announced on Tuesday that plans for the April race have been scrapped. A statement from agency says that “this disappointing decision follows discussions with the authorities in Gaza who have insisted that no women should participate” in the marathon. (more…)

 

Hamas politician’s wife: We must teach our kids to die

The wife of a Hamas member of the Palestinian parliament recently demonstrated the stark difference between the dominant values in Israeli Jewish society that those that have sadly taken hold in much of Palestinian society.

In a December 2 interview with Al-Aqsa TV, Umm Osama, wife of Hamas lawmaker Khalil Al-Hayya, stated that a woman’s role is no less important than a man’s in “Palestine” because it is the mother who “instills in her children the love of Jihad and martyrdom for the sake of Allah.” (more…)

 

Palestinians don’t want Palestinian refugees

By Aviel Scheider.. The Palestinian governments in Gaza (Hamas) and the so-called “West Bank” (Mahmoud Abbas) have refused to take Palestinian refugees from war-ridden Syria.

Recently, the UN Works and Relief Agency (UNWRA), which was created to handle the issue of Palestinian Arab refugees, asked the Palestinian governments to allow their brothers from Syria to enter. (more…)

By Israel Today Staff.. Israel this week expressed deep disappointment after the European Union condemned the building of new homes for Jews in Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”) as the main obstacle to peace. In an official response to the EU statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry noted that “settlement activity” had never before hindered the peace process, and that the true obstacle to peace is the Arabs’ ongoing refusal to recognize Israel’s right to exist.
