Czech Republic follows Trump, recognizes Jerusalem

The Czech Republic on Wednesday (December 6, 2017) evening followed in the footsteps of U.S. President Donald Trump and said it recognises Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel. “The Czech Republic currently, before the peace between Israel and Palestine is signed, recognises Jerusalem to be in fact the capital of Israel in the borders of the demarcation line from 1967,” said a statement issued by the Czech foreign ministry. The statement also stressed that the Czech Republic “considers Jerusalem to be future capital of both states, meaning the State of Israel and the future State of Palestine.” [Photo top right: Czech President Milos Zeman | Photo credit: Reuters].

59% oppose the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 lines as a final solution for the Palestinian cause, according to a poll of 1,362 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza conducted on Oct. 13-15, 2016. 73% oppose the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 lines with some land exchanges. 79% reject the creation of a binational state for both Arabs and Jews. Direct negotiations have always been – and will always be – the answer for the Arab-Israel conflict, write Einat Wilf and Shany Mor. Australia showed moral leadership in its term on the UN Security Council, most notably when it stood with the US in December (2014) and voted against a highly biased and anti-Israel draft resolution put forward by the Arab League, recognising true peace between Israel and the Palestinians can only be achieved via direct negotiations. Australian FM: Don’t call settlements illegal under international law

In a candid interview, Julie Bishop expresses skepticism about the peace process, says boycott Israel activists are ‘anti-Semitic’. In a rare show of support for Israel’s settlement enterprise, Australia’s foreign minister has said that the international community should refrain from calling settlements illegal under international law, without waiting for their status to be determined in a deal with the Palestinians. In an exclusive interview with The Times of Israel, Julie Bishop suggested that, contrary to conventional diplomatic wisdom, the settlements may not be illegal under international law. (more…)

Israeli Ambassadors Warn: EU Policies Will Soon Start Damaging Israel – Within the Green Line

By Gidon Ben-tzvi.. Israeli ambassadors to European Union member states warned that EU sanctions currently targeting Jewish communities located over the Green Line may spill over into the rest of Israel within a year, Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported on Tuesday (January 14, 2014). UN Security Council Resolution 242 – The Cornerstone for a Just and Lasting Peace

Resolution 242 is the cornerstone for what it calls “a just and lasting peace.” It calls for a negotiated solution based on “secure and recognized boundaries” – recognizing the flaws in Israel’s previous temporary borders – the 1948 Armistice lines or the “Green Line” – by  not calling upon Israel to withdraw from ‘all occupied territories,’ but rather “from territories occupied.” (more…)
