‘I Think I Was Saved’ From France, Writes Granddaughter of Brutally-Murdered Holocaust Survivor Mireille Knoll

editor 29 March 2018

By Ben Cohen.. The president of France and the leader of the Democratic Party in the US Senate were among several international figures who paid tribute on Tuesday to Mireille Knoll — the 85-year-old Holocaust survivor murdered in her Paris apartment last Friday — but it was a Facebook post by one of the victim’s granddaughters that best captured the tragedy of the moment. Jessica Knoll, who lives in Israel, composed a poem in Hebrew in which she paid tribute to her grandmother — whose death is being investigated by French police as an antisemitic hate crime — and excoriated Europe as a continent whose politicians “have stopped thinking.” [Photo top right: Jessica Knoll with her grandmother Mireille, who was murdered in her Paris apartment on March 23. editor 9 March 2018

By Guy Milliere.. Graffiti on Jewish-owned homes warn the owners to “flee immediately” if they want to live. Anonymous letters with live bullets are dropped into mailboxes of Jews. Laws meant to punish anti-Semitic threats are now used to punish those who denounce the threats. A new edition of a public school history textbook for the eighth grade states that in France it is forbidden to criticize Islam. [Photo top right: French soldiers guard a Jewish school in Paris. How Israel Went Nuclear

editor 19 September 2017

By Shimon Peres.. The father of Israel’s nuclear deterrent reveals how it was built. An exclusive excerpt from No Room For Small Dreams, Shimon Peres’ posthumous autobiography. It was October 24, 1956, at the villa in Sèvres where the French and Israeli leadership were meeting to finalize the plans for Operation Suez. Ben-Gurion and I stood in one of the mansion’s sweeping spaces; it was at once a ballroom, an art museum, and a well-stocked saloon. Across the way, French foreign minister Christian Pineau and defense minister Maurice Bourgès-Maunoury were deep in conversation, but otherwise unoccupied. I sensed an opportunity, perhaps the perfect moment. [Photo top right: The Dimona nuclear power plant in the southern Israeli Negev desert, 2002. (Photo: Thomas Coex/AFP/Getty Images)].
