New President of the European Parliament: “First responsibility is to defend the Jewish people.”

A full week of meetings commemorating the Wannsee Conference in Berlin and the victims of the Holocaust came to a climax in Brussels on Tuesday night, when the newly-elected President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, gave an official speech. In his speech, one of the first as a newly-elected president, he stated that ”his first obligation as President of the European Parliament is to defend the Jewish people and the State of Israel.” The statement came in his opening address at the 8th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day in the European Parliament, co-organized by the European Coalition for Israel. The Arab Spring threatens to become an Arab winter

Last week the European Coalition for Israel organised a conference with several members of the European Parliament in Brussels to talk about the Arab Spring, and what it means for Europe and Israel. This meeting showed that the Arab Spring presents Europe with a huge challenge. There is a lot of chaos in the region. People are confused. Europe needs to develop a clear and strong policy in response. (more…)

 

European Parliamant declaration on Palestinian state unbalanced but contains nothing new

A recent statement from the European Parliament (29 September) expressing support for a Palestinian state has apparently caused some confusion and the European Coalition for Israel therefore issues the following statement of clarification.
