EU leader: Europe not ready yet to blacklist Hezbollah

The president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, has said that the EU would consider adding Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations but added that it did yet possess sufficient evidence of the Shiite militia’s activities in Europe to take such a decision now. Last month, Bulgaria – one of 27 member states – implicated Hezbollah in a bombing in the Black Sea resort of Burgas last year that killed five Israelis, putting pressure on the EU to take action against Hezbollah.

Peres gives historic speech to EU lawmakers

Israel’s President Shimon Peres told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday (March 12, 2013) that the EU should classify Hezbollah as a terror group and that Israel’s new Cabinet created a chance for renewed peace talks with the Palestinians. “We appeal to you, call terror ‘terror,’” Peres told the European Union assembly in the first-ever speech by an Israeli president to the directly elected parliament of the 27 EU member states. Trial Offers Rare Look at Work of Hezbollah in Europe

LIMASSOL, Cyprus — In a little-noticed trial in a small courtroom here on Wednesday (February 20, 2013), a 24-year-old man provided a rare look inside a covert global war between Israel and Iran, admitting that he is an operative of the militant group Hezbollah, for which he acted as a courier in Europe and staked out locations in this port city that Israelis were known to frequent. EJC ‘deeply concerned’ by EU continued failure to proscribe Hezbollah

BRUSSELS (EJP)—European Jewish Congress President Moshe Kantor said he was “deeply disappointed” that the EU Foreign Ministers failed to label Hezbollah a terrorist group in the wake of the recent confirmation that the Lebanon-based group was involved in the bus bombing which killed six people in Burgas, Bulgaria, in July 2012.

“It is deeply disappointing and inexplicable that the EU Foreign Affairs Council is continuing to prevaricate over a decision proscribing Hezbollah particularly since the Bulgarian government confirmed evidence proving Hezbollah was behind the murderous terror attacks which took place in Burgas during July last year,” Kantor said in a statement.
