Abbas travels to Moscow in bid to circumvent US as main Mideast peace brokers

editor 20 February 2018

By JNS.. Abbas sees Russia as an emerging power in the Middle East, and hopes that Russia together with other international powers can serve as brokers of an arrangement that will deliver a Palestinian state. Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas traveled Russia on Monday (February 12, 2018), in an attempt to boost the standing of the Palestinian Authority and gain backing for a Palestinian state from Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the wake of deteriorating relations between Palestinians and the current U.S. administration. Time for the US to walk away from the PLO

editor 12 February 2018

By Caroline Glick.. On Tuesday (January 30, 2018) in Bethlehem, the Palestinians demonstrated the choice the Americans now face in their dealings with Fatah – the supposedly moderate PLO faction that controls the Palestinian Authority and the PLO. President Donald Trump and his advisers can play by Fatah’s rules or they can walk away. On Tuesday a delegation of diplomats from the US Consulate in Jerusalem came to Bethlehem to participate in a meeting of the local chamber of commerce. When they arrived in the city, Fatah members attacked them. Their vehicles with diplomatic license plates were pelted with tomatoes and eggs by a mob of protesters calling out anti-American slogans. Palestinians: The Atrocities No One Talks About

editor 8 February 2018

By Khaled Abu Toameh.. Why the need to keep reminding the world of the plight of the Palestinians in Syria? It is because the international community and pro-Palestinian groups around the world do not seem to care about the atrocities that are being committed against Palestinians in Syria or any Arab country because they were not committed by Israel. The 82-year-old Mahmoud Abbas, meanwhile, has made clear where his priorities stand. Instead of searching for ways to help his people in Syria and the Gaza Strip, where hospitals are facing a deathly shortage of fuel and medicine, Abbas has just spent $50 million to purchase a “presidential plane.” [Photo top right: The Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in Syria has been under siege by the Syrian army for more than 1,660 days. Palestinian Blackmail: US Is Our Enemy

editor 30 January 2018

By Bassam Tawil.. The Palestinians’ mock trial and “execution” of Trump and Pence gives the Palestinians a green light to target Americans physically. More interesting still is that members of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s ruling Fatah faction participated in the mock trial and “execution” of the US president and the Vice President. Strikingly, this event took place inside a refugee camp that is run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). More precisely, the execution took place outside a school run by UNRWA. Trump and Pence were “hanged” with the UNRWA flag flying atop the school in the background. Time for Trump to cut the cord on the Palestinians 01/19/2018

editor 27 January 2018

By Caroline Glick.. For decades, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has been touted by American leaders as a moderate man of peace. U.S. leaders from George W. Bush to Barack Obama, and from Condoleezza Rice to John Kerry, all insisted that Abbas is the Palestinian leader who will make an historic deal with Israel. President Donald Trump has met three times with Abbas since taking office. On Sunday night (January 14, 2018), Abbas showed them what he really thinks. He cursed Trump saying that the U.S. President’s “house should be destroyed.” (more…)

Abbas heads to Europe in bid to circumvent US in peace process

editor 23 January 2018

By Dov Lieber.. The Palestinian leader will be seeking money and recognition, and will try to launch a new international framework for statehood. On Monday (January 22, 2018), Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will head to Brussels, where he hopes to set out on a new path to Palestinian statehood, without the United States. After US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December (2017), the Palestinian leadership declared Washington could no longer fulfil the historic and central role in the peace process it has held for over two decades. Abbas Tears Off The Mask

editor 19 January 2018

By Melanie Phillips.. For years, America, Britain and the EU have insisted that Mahmoud Abbas is a moderate and a statesman-in-waiting who deserves to be rewarded with a state of Palestine. For years, they have insisted that he is prepared to live alongside the state of Israel. For years, they have blamed Israel for intransigence in not believing this and thus not agreeing to give him land that they thought he would use to threaten the lives of its citizens. (more…)

editor 20 December 2017
