Jerusalem’s Light Rail Hit Hard by Rock Terror

By Israel Today Staff.. Jerusalem’s new light rail system established to ease traffic through the center of the capital has taken a serious hit as a result of ongoing Arab stone throwing attacks in the city’s eastern neighborhoods.

Arab rioting has been plaguing Jerusalem since June, when Jewish vigilantes murdered a young boy from the eastern suburb of Shuafat in retaliation for the earlier execution of three Israeli youths by Hamas terrorists.

A number of times in recent months Arab rioters have destroyed light rail stations in the city’s eastern neighborhoods, and at present a full one-third of the fleet of 23 trains is out of service due to stoning attacks.

A spokesman for CityPass, the company that operates Jerusalem’s light rail, had this to say on Sunday:

“Due to continued and repeated rock throwing that inflicts damage to the trains, this morning we only have 16 operable trains out of a total of 23. What that means is that fewer than needed trains are active on the line, and the frequency (of trains) throughout the line will be harmed.”
