In his recent article published in the Palestinian Chronicle, Prof. Mahmoud N. Musa, leading Arab academic in France, argues that most Palestinians actually want a one State solution in which a Jewish national homeland is removed. In his view Israel is a colonial, racist state.
The Jews are the colonialists, the Arabs are the indiginous population. The 2 State solution should be rejected because it implicitly recognizes Israel’s existence. In other words, the creation of a Jewish state was a huge mistake, and the answer to the world’s problems is to remove Israel from the map, create one big Palestinian state, and return the Jews to their dhimmi status under the Arabs.
Prof. Musa apparently teaches global politics. It would better if he first studied history. He completely ignores the historical existence of the Jewish people, their faith in the Bible in which Jerusalem plays a central role, the destruction of the Temple and the dispersion of millions of Jews in the first century after Christ, the continued existence of Jewish communities in the land ever since, their slaughter and persecution in Europe for 2000 years and ultimately the massacre of 6 million Jews in the Shoah, the complete neglect of Jerusalem under the Arabs and Turks, etc etc.
He blames the West for creating Israel, instead of thanking them from sacrificing their youth in the first World War to free the Arabs from the Turkish yoke and then help them establish wealthy Arab States in the 20th century. We are used to hearing this rhetoric from the Palestinian leadership and the fundamental Arab leaders in the region. But is appalling that a Professor working for a leading European academic institution should come out with such arrogant distortion of the historical facts. Sadly, this is all too common. And even more sad is that so many of us in the West get sucked in by it.
